District staff presented a package of recommended policy updates for board review and requested permission to place them on the next meeting's consent agenda.
Dr. Jamie Soltis summarized three categories: policies reviewed with no changes, policies with minor updates (legal or editorial) and more substantive new or revised policies. Staff highlighted several items for board attention: updated language to Policy 3.16 (bullying and harassment) and its administrative regulation with a request to present the update and an informational briefing at the next board meeting; a rewritten Distribution of Materials policy (3.39) that clarifies approval standards for third-party postings and prohibits advertising for commercial establishments whose primary revenue is intoxicants; a proposed new Leave Without Pay policy limiting ad hoc unpaid leave to two days per year without supervisor approval and requiring prior approval for longer leaves; and a clarification to PTO payout timing (move payout to January to provide clearer budget timing).
Other changes included aligning volunteer-age requirements with substitute policy (18 for elementary/middle volunteers, 21 for high school volunteers), deleting redundant policies, and updating technology- and health-related policies (for example, communicable-disease return-to-play language that defers to local/state health and VHSL/NFHS guidance). Staff said attorney guidance prompted removal of one sentence from the public-complaints policy and that several edits were made for clarity and to match current practice. Staff recommended moving the reviewed policies to the consent agenda for the next meeting.
