Special education annual plan presented for Part B (IDEA) compliance; staff to seek consent approval next meeting

Dr. Beth Harmon presented the annual special education plan and the Part B (IDEA) flow-through grant assurances to the Roanoke County School Board.
Harmon told the board the document certifies that the division will meet federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements and Virginia regulations governing special education programs for children with disabilities for the 2025–26 award period. The plan includes documentation of local policies and procedures, fiscal responsibilities such as maintenance of effort and proportionate set-asides for parentally placed private-school students, and projected spending for IDEA Part B sections 611 and 619 funds.
Harmon said the plan is comprehensive and staff will request consent approval at the next school board meeting. No board action was taken at the work session; staff asked for questions and received none at the conclusion of the presentation.
