ELA adoption committee recommends SABIS/My Perspectives textbooks; board receives first read

A district textbook adoption committee recommended SABIS (My Perspectives) for English language arts after a months‑long review that included vendor demonstrations, public comment, teacher surveys and committee scoring.
Dr. Lori Comer, director of secondary education, told the board that the committee included K–12 ELA teachers, ESL and special education representatives, literacy coaches and three parent community members. Committee members evaluated four VDOE‑approved options (HMH, McGraw‑Hill, SABIS/My Perspectives and Perfection Learning) and gathered district teacher feedback through online access and classroom review materials.
Committee tallies showed mixed preferences, but after reviewing public and teacher comments and committee score sheets, the group’s final vote favored SABIS/My Perspectives by a narrow margin (55% to 45% in the final committee count). The recommended quote in the board packet included digital access and classroom hard copies; district staff said the quote also provides several novels and a seven‑year access term.
Board members praised the committee work and asked administration to confirm that classroom hard copies and student novels would be available. Dr. Comer confirmed the quote includes a classroom set of hard copies and digital student access and said the full adoption packet and pricing details would return for board approval at the May meeting.
