The Essex County Superintendent told commissioners the county office provides regular compliance support and district outreach across the county’s school system and asked for modest budget flexibility to replace aging computers and to explore pay-range adjustments for long-serving staff.
"I believe this is my tenth year, and we pretty much keep our budget flat. And what I'd like to do is, request consideration for expanding the expenses of our office. We have some very, very old computers that are in need of replacement," the superintendent said, noting the office has five county-funded positions and works closely with superintendents across the county.
The superintendent described routine work — compliance oversight, district coordination and resource-sharing — and said the office benefits from close county partnerships on programs such as public-health outreach and museum field-trip invitations. He asked county HR and administration to evaluate whether existing staff have reached the top of their salary ranges and whether title changes or other steps could open compensation bands to retain long-term employees.
Commissioners and county staff agreed to have human-resources staff meet with the superintendent to explore options for title changes or other remedies; county administration said it would follow up.
Ending: The superintendent thanked commissioners and said the office would coordinate with HR and administration on a personnel and equipment plan.
