La Marque celebrates All‑America City award; leaders say recognition can drive partnerships and resident input

La Marque Mayor Keith Bell said the city's designation as an All‑America City will open doors for partnerships, boost resident engagement and provide a local sense of direction toward improved services and infrastructure.
"Folks around this country, their eyes are open now, to the great city of La Marque, and they are watching us," Mayor Keith Bell said during the city's State of the City address. He said the award, presented by the National Civic League, reflects work by city staff and volunteers and should help the city attract new businesses and investments.
The city's communications coordinator, Agatha Jimenez, opened the event and noted the award was one of the highlights of 2024. Interim City Manager J.B. Pritchett and Bell said the award also validated local programs that the city submitted as part of its application, notably the Safe City initiative and new approaches to sharing information with residents.
Bell credited former City Manager Cesar Garcia for contributions to the city's application and thanked staff and volunteers for their work. "It provides for a sense of direction, toward excellence," Bell said, while adding the recognition does not mean the city has finished its work.
City leaders said they plan to use the All‑America City designation as a catalyst to pursue better amenities, infrastructure and business partnerships. They framed the award as an opportunity to make city government more transparent and to invite more residents to participate on boards and commissions.
The address emphasized that the All‑America City recognition is one tool among many the city intends to use as La Marque prepares for sustained population and commercial growth.
Looking ahead, officials said they will link the award to specific outreach and development efforts but did not announce a new dedicated program or funding stream tied solely to the designation.
