Mayor Charlotte Wilcox issued a proclamation designating May 11–17, 2025, as National Police Week in Highland Village during the May 13 council meeting and publicly honored the service of local officers.
Wilcox read the proclamation noting the national memorial and observances, and she directed flags be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15. Chief Stewart thanked the council for the city’s support and noted recruitment challenges in law enforcement.
Council then solemnly swore in Daryl Thompson as a Highland Village police officer. Thompson introduced family and briefly described his background: three years in the U.S. Army and more than four years as a Texas peace officer with service at UT Southwestern and Southern Methodist University police departments, including training and tactical roles. He told the council his given name is Eben but that he goes by Daryl to avoid frequent mispronunciations.
The mayor invited Thompson’s wife to pin his badge and many department members and guests joined for a photo. Chief Stewart said the department appreciated city support, and the ceremony concluded with remarks welcoming Thompson to the department.
