Palmview approves MOUs with South Texas College for live-fire and rescue training

Palmview city leaders approved memoranda of understanding with South Texas College to allow the city’s fire department to use a natural-gas live-fire training field and specialized training props for rescue and forcible-entry scenarios.
Chiefs told the council the STC green training field uses natural gas rather than burning hay bales, which reduces wear on protective gear and simplifies decontamination. The MOU covers use of the training field and additional props — including simulated roll-up doors and armored-vehicle props — for live-fire and technical-rescue training such as rappelling and forcible entry.
Staff said training fees are reasonable and will be paid from the fire department’s training budget. The council approved both MOUs by motion and voice vote. The chief said the agreements align Palmview with neighboring cities and existing arrangements the college maintains across the region.
Council members asked about locations; staff said the facility is in the southern part of McAllen and noted other nearby training fields (Edinburg) are available for different exercises.
