City staff reported results from several recent community events during the May 7 council meeting.
Parks and Recreation Director Mr. Kane said the plant giveaway and beautification commission food drive collected more than 500 pounds of food and over $200 in cash donations for the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Kane also announced the outdoor pool's 20th-anniversary party scheduled for Saturday, June 14, for residents and members, with promotional details to follow.
Public Works Director Mr. Gunn reported the city's shredding event collected approximately A31,300 of paper (transcript numeric style indicates A31,300) despite limited prior advertising. He also explained why several city dump trucks drive on the highway weekly: newer trucks require highway driving to bring emissions-control systems up to operating temperature; the practice helps avoid costly diagnostic resets.
Chief Masati said the prescription drug take-back event collected 42 pounds of medication for destruction. Council members and staff praised volunteers and employees who supported tornado cleanup efforts and other community services.
The reports were informational; no council action was required.
