Council approves two mowing contracts for MoDOT rights-of-way totaling about $57,800

The Bridgeton City Council on May 7 approved two ordinances authorizing contracts to mow Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) rights-of-way and nearby corridors. By recorded votes the council adopted Ordinance 25-17 (Bluegrass Lawn Care) and Ordinance 25-18 (MACC Contracting).
Ordinance 25-17 authorizes an agreement with Bluegrass Lawn Care of Saint Louis LLC for mowing two service areas (I-270 & St. Charles Rock Road area no. 1; North Lindbergh Blvd & St. Charles Rock Road area no. 2) for $24,955, with a project contingency of $10,000. Council Member Luke said the city budgeted $100,000 this year for mowing of MoDOT property; the contracts will draw from that appropriation and allow public-works staff to begin permit work and mowing the week of May 18.
Ordinance 25-18 authorizes an agreement with MACC Contracting for mowing I-70 & St. Charles Rock Road area no. 3 and North Lindbergh Blvd & Whitehall Manor Drive area no. 4 for $32,863.90, with a contingency of $23,000. Council Member Luke said both contracts plan for mowing every two weeks, with schedule adjustments for weather or MoDOT operations, include trash pickup during each mowing and two additional winter trash pickups in November and December.
Council Member Luther and Council Member Norris both voiced support; Luther noted the work follows cleanup after a recent tornado and called the contracts important to community appearance. Norris said he regretted the need to spend the money but said the city must take responsibility for trash removal on those corridors. Public Works Director Mr. Gunn said MoDOT permits are required and that staff can start permit work immediately after contract approval.
Votes: For Ordinance 25-17 the clerk recorded an 8–0 roll-call vote to enact Bill 6492 as Ordinance 25-17. For Ordinance 25-18 the clerk recorded an 8–0 roll-call vote to enact Bill 6493 as Ordinance 25-18.
Implementation: The contracts authorize the vendor to operate on MoDOT property once permits are secured; the public-works department is responsible for permit coordination and contractor oversight.
