The council authorized the city on Feb. 10 to purchase a 2025 Dodge 5500 (or equivalent) chassis from Bellman Automotive for $68,839 to replace a 2014 truck in the street department fleet; the council approved the purchase by recorded affirmative votes.
Public Works staff explained the purchase will replace a 2014 Ford F550 with roughly 48,486 hours and is intended as a snow-plow/dump-bed truck. Staff said the city originally budgeted $122,000 for the vehicle but proposed splitting the purchase into two steps: acquire the chassis now to secure pricing and delivery slot and return later to purchase a high-capacity bed (estimated at $38,000) and associated equipment. Staff noted delivery lead times of about five months and that the proposed vehicle carries a five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
A motion to purchase the chassis-only from Bellman Automotive for $68,839 was moved and passed. The transcript records affirmative votes in the excerpt from Councilmember Paige, Councilmember Briggs and Councilmember Weber. Staff will return to council to request approval for the bed and final outfitting once specifications and pricing are finalized.
