Mexico, Missouri — The Mexico City Council on March 10 approved the purchase of one 2025 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle from a state-contract vendor following staff recommendation.
Chief Bryce Misko presented competing state-contract prices for three vehicles: a Chevrolet Tahoe at $58,902, a Ford Explorer at $45,936 and a Dodge Durango at $41,899. Staff reported dealers offered a $4,000 trade-in allowance for the city’s 2019 Dodge Charger (128,900 miles) and recommended purchasing a 2025 Ford Explorer from the state-contract vendor Joe Malkin’s (listed in the record as Joe Malkin’s/Joe Motkins Ford) in Columbia at an effective purchase price of $41,936 after trade-in, subject to the bidder’s ability to deliver and meet specifications.
Council asked about use of state bid contracts versus soliciting local bids and discussion noted the local Chevrolet dealer would not be able to match the state contract pricing. Council moved and approved the purchase; recorded votes show Briggs, Weber, Williams and Miller voting yes.
Staff said the purchase is subject to delivery time and vendor ability to meet bid specifications and that the department’s budget included $45,000 for the vehicle purchase.
