Council backs tourism grants for local events and advertising under Mexico tourism fund

Mexico, Missouri — The Mexico City Council on March 10 approved a resolution (Bill 2025-12) implementing the Mexico Tourism Commission’s recommendations for small grants and tourism advertising.
Roger Haines told the council the tourism commission reviewed six applications and recommended funding levels: Mexico FFA chapter requested $5,000 for a truck-and-tractor pull on May 10 and the commission recommended $2,000; an organization listed in the packet for a car show (described in the record as Freedom of Road Bridal Local 13) requested $800 and the commission recommended $800 for advertising; Mexico Young Farmers requested $6,400 for a truck-and-tractor pull on Aug. 30 and the commission recommended $5,000; and the Mexico Tourism Commission requested funding for continued advertising in Missouri Life and associated publications and the commission recommended $16,875 (the submission included three tiers: $18,023, $16,875 and $15,000). The Miss Missouri Scholarship Organization requested $10,000 and the commission recommended $8,500.
Staff recommended council concur with the tourism commission and proceed with reading by title and passage of the attached resolution. Council moved, read by title and passed Bill 2025-12 unanimously.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to execute agreements with the listed organizations to provide the recommended funding from the Mexico tourism fund.
