Council approves final plat to split north lot in GM subdivision

The Mexico City Council on April 14 approved an ordinance finalizing the plat for the GM Subdivision, a lot split that separates two houses that previously sat on a single parcel.
City staff told the council the owners'names on the application are Gary and Monica Johnson and Sam Robinette. The northern portion of the existing parcel contains two houses on one lot, which the staff said is contrary to code; the owners want to divide that parcel so each house sits on its own lot.
Drew Williford (city staff) explained the division is small, keeps both resulting lots within zoning setback requirements and qualifies for an administrative exemption under section 36-74(b) of the municipal code because each tract is under one acre. Because it met the exemption criteria, the final plat did not go to the Planning and Zoning Commission and was brought directly to the council for final approval. The city staff said the plat meets state and city code and would be recorded the following day if the council approved.
Council approved the ordinance on two readings by title and passage.
The council did not record additional conditions or amendments to the plat approval during the meeting.
