The Pompton Lakes Planning Board heard an update on the town’s master plan work and was told the municipal planner will form a committee to scope and oversee the project.
The planner briefed the board that a committee combining planning board members, council members and municipal staff will be assembled in the next month or two to work on a master plan update tied to downtown redevelopment. The planner said the municipality is weighing a limited reexamination against preparing a full new master plan. "We did meet the master plan committee… one of the things we discussed… the most economical path is to do a reexamination," the planner reported, but she said a full new plan may be preferable to avoid successive, confusing reexaminations.
Board members discussed cost estimates mentioned during the meeting: the planner referenced figures in the range of about $25,000 for a limited reexamination versus roughly $150,000 for a full new master plan. The planner said the town is setting aside money and that a full project might be deferred until 2026 to 2027 because of cost and staffing constraints.
At the meeting, board members agreed to place the item on next month’s agenda to name a planning board representative or representatives to the committee. Michael (staff member) and the planner asked board members to indicate interest so the committee composition can be finalized ahead of scoping.
