Zoning board approves replacement fence on paper road for Glaser property

The Pompton Lakes Zoning Board of Adjustment on Feb. 25 approved John Glaser’s application to replace a fence and sliding gate that run alongside what the board described as a historic “paper road” (Clara Hill Lane).
John Glaser, sworn before the board, said the gate and fence have been in place about 30 years. A board member who visited the site described Clara Hill Lane as a narrow, former farm track that “is not a drivable road” and said the replacement fence “has no impact on anybody” compared with other nearby road-facing fences.
Several residents spoke at the hearing. One asked why a sliding door was needed; an attendee noted the gate is solid PVC and not see-through, which the resident said would affect sightlines. Glaser said he had previously used the rear access when he had a commercial vehicle and that the gate provided access to a parking space behind the property; he also said he is retired and no longer uses the space for commercial parking.
The board voted to approve the replacement gate and fence. A board member reiterated the procedural note given for other approvals: the formal resolution of approval will be adopted at the next meeting and published, after which a 45‑day appeal window will begin.
