A committee representative reported that new playground equipment for Hurstville Park has been ordered and estimated to take roughly 12 weeks to arrive and be ready for installation. The board said students had been involved in selecting some playground elements and that the new equipment would be similar to the existing structures but updated.
Members said the seasonal wooden docks at Lakeside Park have deteriorated and are being replaced to support kayak rentals and paddle-boat operations; the transcript records that the town is expediting new docks because the existing wood is rotted. The municipal Department of Public Works (DPW) will also work on the mower property to prepare grade and support installation of a remaining permanent dock system.
Board members said a grant — not open-space funds — will fund a new guardrail and the removal of a chain-link fence along a shoreline area; the grant requires documentation of continued interest to retain the funds. The board also noted that some park improvements, bleacher projects and school athletic upgrades intersect with borough-owned property and with school-district projects, creating questions about ownership and funding responsibility.
Volunteers are invited for a river cleanup scheduled for May 4; organizers will provide lunch and volunteers were asked to bring appropriate footwear. The board encouraged participation and noted the town plans related grounds and planting work at several small parks this spring.
