Rye Brook renews intermunicipal agreement to run after-school program at Blind Brook schools

The Rye Brook Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved intermunicipal agreements (IMAs) with the Blind Brook School District to operate the village'run, state-licensed after-school childcare program at school facilities for both the current 2024—2025 year (formalizing the arrangement) and the 2025—2026 school year.

Under the agreements the village will operate the program at the Bruno and Panterio/Prince Street schools (the resolution text names available district premises) during the school year and reimburse the district for one security monitor during program hours. For 2024—2025 the program runs from roughly 3:10 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on school days, plus additional hours on conference and special days; the board approved the agreement subject to counsel's modification. Trustees also approved the IMA for the 2025—2026 school year with the same program structure and updated dates.

Officials said the village'run program is licensed by the state as a school-age childcare program and provides a mix of recreation and homework support; the board noted the program has been successful and that the village is one of a small number of municipalities in Westchester running a licensed after-school program. The board also approved a modest fee schedule increase (discussed elsewhere in the meeting) consistent with the budget.

The mayor and village administrator were authorized to execute the IMAs after counsel's review.
