The Rye Brook Board of Trustees adopted the village’s annual budget for the fiscal year beginning June 1, 2025, setting a tax levy and authorizing capital projects and appropriations.
Administrator Chris presented the budget as amended during two work sessions (March 31 and April 7) and a public hearing held April 8. The board adopted a tax levy of $20,029,001.22 and set homestead and nonhomestead rates that staff summarized as a homestead rate of 5.080805 and a nonhomestead rate of 7.9553 per $1,000 of assessed value (a blended rate of approximately 5.4788). The board also established capital projects totaling $2,115,006.67 in the adopted budget and authorized salaries, benefits and other personnel terms as listed in the budget documents. The motion to adopt the budget passed unanimously among trustees present (Epstein, Heiser, Krom, Mayor Klein; Trustee Morlino was absent).
During budget discussion trustees raised a separate, budgeted increase in municipal support for the Port Chester–Rye Brook Chamber of Commerce. Several trustees said they support the chamber but want clearer objectives tied to the municipal funding. Trustees agreed to adopt the budget as presented but to hold release of the chamber funds pending a short working group with staff and chamber leadership to define deliverables and performance measures. Administrator Chris said the June 1 payment schedule gives the village time to form a working group; trustees proposed two board members plus the village administrator meet with the new chamber director and produce a plan prior to funds being disbursed.
Trustees praised department heads and staff for a tight budget and clean audits. Several indicated they would like staff to survey other municipalities about how they support local chambers (financially or in kind) and to ensure the village’s contribution yields measurable benefits for Rye Brook businesses.
The board voted to adopt the tentative budget as the annual budget for fiscal year 2025–26, with the budget, capital program approvals and tax levy as recorded in the meeting minutes.
