At its May 5 meeting, the Village of Vermont Board of Trustees approved several routine resolutions and took personnel and procurement steps.
Resolutions the board approved included: the proposed proposal received from Optimum Air Solutions in the amount of $12.40; approval of a General Code proposal not to exceed $1,350; and acceptance of a project agreement offered by Millennium Strategies LLC in connection with the New York State DOT local roadway departure safety projects grant program in the amount of $1,800. The board also approved treasury abstracts for May 5, 2025 in the amount of $128,283.57 and approved the April 7, 2025 meeting minutes.
On personnel the board appointed Sarah Moses as confidential assistant to the mayor at an annual salary of $30,000 for a one‑year term to expire the first Monday in April 2026, with a stated minimum of 17 hours per week at Village Hall. Trustees later clarified the position will function as the mayor’s confidential assistant; the appointment was made by resolution and carried by voice vote.
Other board actions included: setting a public hearing for June 4, 2025 at 5 p.m. on a proposed zoning map amendment to apply the R‑SH zoning district to property at 444 Saddle River Road (tax map section cited on the agenda); authorizing issuance of a request for proposals for prosecutor services for the village justice court in a form approved by counsel and the village clerk; and approving a resolution to have the deputy clerk perform duties in the absence of the village clerk with a monthly stipend as listed in the resolution.
Trustees also asked staff to request county personnel create two part‑time positions and to explore part‑time and full‑time code enforcement positions. The board directed staff to obtain pricing for portable speed‑alert signs that display drivers’ speeds and to meet with the engineer about potential bike-lane locations for safety improvements. No controversial or contested votes were recorded; the motions were passed by voice vote during the meeting.
