Fredonia approves spring events, pavilion fee increases and insurance requirements for vendors

The board approved the annual Community Cleanup Day on Sunday, April 6, 2025, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and authorized use of the Water Street Municipal Parking Lot, with event costs to be covered by the Fredonia PDA and the event's sponsors. The resolution passed on a recorded vote.
Trustees also granted permission for Family First Methodist Church to use East Parker Common for a chicken-dinner and basket raffle fundraiser on Saturday, May 10, 2025, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., subject to police direction and receipt of a $1,000,000 certificate of insurance naming the Village of Fredonia as additional insured.
The board approved a Berkfield-area music event, the Reverberation Music Festival, for May 10 and use of Barker Commons gazebo from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The festival organizer must submit a certificate of insurance naming the village as additional insured for $1,000,000; trustees limited picnic-table and trash-receptacle support to existing park resources and said any extra equipment beyond village supplies will be the event organizer's responsibility.
Separately, trustees adopted a revision to Russell Joy Park pavilion rental rates to account for increased maintenance costs. The board raised fees by $10 per rental category for the upcoming season, and noted that reservations already booked will remain at prior rates.
Other routine approvals included a request for the treasurer and village clerk to attend a local government conference at no cost to the village and authorization of regular payrolls and bills as reflected in Abstract numbers (745'751). Those items were approved by unanimous vote.
Why this matters The approvals enable standard spring and summer community activities while updating pavilion fees to reflect higher operating costs. Insurance requirements and police direction aim to reduce public-safety and liability risk for community events.
