Three Radford High School students used the meeting’s public-comment period to ask the board to support the return of teacher Mr. Muncy to their classroom, saying his absence has left an academic and emotional gap.
Student Emily Hall said the class has struggled without him and described the effect on both learning and classroom atmosphere. “Mr. Muncy has not only taught us important academic lessons, but has also fostered a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning,” Hall said. She and classmate Olivia Radford asked the board to consider steps that would allow him to return, while acknowledging they understood the board may be addressing other matters related to his absence.
Another student, Lily Elhadi, said from a personal perspective that Mr. Muncy was “one of the best teachers I’ve ever had” and credited him with support for students’ mental health and academic preparedness.
Nut graf: The board received the comments as public testimony; the meeting record does not show any immediate administrative action taken in response to the public comments during open session. The board later went into closed session for personnel- and student-related matters but did not announce personnel actions in open session.
Ending: Public commenters said they understood the board would determine next steps; board members acknowledged the comments and later certified closed-session deliberations that included personnel and student matters as allowed by statute.
