Radford City School Board members approved proposed salary scales that apply a 3% increase on most pay steps and raised the homebound-teacher rate, then accepted personnel recommendations after a closed session.
Staff presenting the scales said the 3% raises were based on amounts included in the proposed budget and will apply to each step of the teacher salary schedule and most other scales. Presenters noted one exception: the homebound-teacher rate was increased in the schedule to $40 (units not specified in the discussion) to improve recruitment for that assignment. Staff also told the board that the salary-scale approval does not depend on resolving an outstanding budget-item (a separate budget discussion was tabled for a future meeting).
Later in the meeting the board convened a closed session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(1) to discuss appointments, resignations, retirements and to consult with legal counsel. After returning to open session the board voted to accept personnel recommendations that were discussed in closed session.
Board members approved the salary scales by voice vote and, after the closed session, approved the personnel actions by voice vote. Specific personnel names and details were not read into the public record at the time of the open vote.
