County celebrates student robotics teams and names district teachers of the year

The board recognized elementary robotics teams from Byrd, Goochland and Randolph for regional and state awards and named school‑level teachers of the year; Rachel Tate of Goochland High School was named district teacher of the year and received a $500 gift from the Goochland Education Foundation.
The Goochland County School Board recognized student and staff achievements at the Jan. 14 meeting.
Facilities and instructional staff introduced award‑winning robotics teams from Byrd, Goochland Elementary and Randolph; coaches and students described regional awards and state‑level placements, and teams explained innovation projects such as water filtration and river‑trash collection devices.
The board also announced school‑level teachers of the year and unveiled Rachel Tate, a GHS teacher, as the division’s teacher of the year for 2024–25. The Goochland Education Foundation presented a $500 check to the teacher of the year.
Ending Board members and the superintendent congratulated students, coaches and teachers, and attendees noted the growth of STEM and extracurricular programs across the division.
