Board recognizes student achievements in athletics, speech and music programs

Athletics: The board highlighted swim team achievements (including a school record in the boys 100 fly with a time reported as 55.16), and named members of a boys’ medley relay and individual event placers. Wrestling head coach Logan Withers reported a rebuilding season with four state qualifiers, two podium finishers and region champion Colton Vincent at 120 pounds; Withers cited Vincent’s 139 career victories (96 by fall) and noted he is the lone senior on the current roster. Girls’ basketball coach Regina Downing brought four varsity players and staff noted the team won the Bull Run District regular season, Bull Run Tournament championship, Region 2B championship and reached the state semifinals; several players received all‑district and all‑region recognition.
Speech and performing arts: Christine Brewer, speech adviser, reported five student competitors advancing to the state speech competition (including a humorous duo that won region and super‑region and had the highest super‑region score), and noted those students will compete in Salem. Music Appreciation Month programming included presentations on choir, band and elementary music; administrators recognized band director Mark Curry and elementary leaders for expanding early music instruction and cited student testimonials about the program’s benefits.
The board thanked coaches, advisers and music staff and asked that recognition be passed to all teachers and support personnel who contributed to student success.
