Division reports gifted screening results; summer school enrollment set for remediation and credit recovery

Staff reported that universal screening in February covered all second‑ and fifth‑graders plus 27 additional referrals, producing a total of 303 students screened. Of those, 40 student profiles were evaluated by the gifted eligibility team and 11 students were found eligible for gifted services under the division’s current identification category (general intellectual aptitude). Staff said they will bring an updated gifted plan to the board, likely in July, and noted the team is researching whether subject‑specific identification would change eligibility numbers.
On summer school, staff said registration is closed. The elementary summer program has enrolled 93 students and the middle school 40 students; summer hours are 8 a.m. to noon. The division emphasized that summer school will focus on remediation and intervention to build skills, while the high school program will concentrate on credit recovery. Teacher applications for summer positions were being accepted.
Staff noted that personal outreach to families increased attendance at the middle‑school summer program and that locations will be the middle school (elementary and middle students) and the CTE building for high school students. Staff will return with any further updates as summer staffing and program details are finalized.
