Board President Jesse Hernandez told the Southside ISD Board Monday that all trustees have met or exceeded the district’s required continuing-education hours under State Board of Education rules for the 2024–25 school year.
“I’m happy to report that all trustees have completed all of their training hours; no one is deficient,” Hernandez said, then read each trustee’s completed hours. He reported the following hours for the board: Jesse Hernandez, 16.5; Mrs. Farias, 13.5; Mrs. Olivares, 9; Mrs. Morales Garcia, 8; Mrs. Lisa O’Salazar, 10.5; Mrs. Marie Silva, 21.5; and Mrs. Angueroz, 66.5.
Hernandez told the board that State Board of Education rules identify eight continuing-education areas, including local-district orientation, orientation to the Texas Education Code, post-legislative updates to the Texas Education Code, team building, additional continuing education, evaluating student academic performance and setting goals, identifying and reporting child abuse and maltreatment, and school safety. He said the district will continue offering board sessions in community meetings to improve engagement on district goals and training.
