Dinwiddie schools award five-year internet and WAN contract to GloFiber

The Dinwiddie County School Board voted to award a five-year Internet and wide-area network (WAN) contract to GloFiber, the district’s current vendor, during its meeting.

The recommendation came from a school staff presenter, who said the district has worked with GloFiber for five years and that the company supports “approximately, like, 30 school divisions already.” The presenter added the new contract would produce a savings of about $21,000 compared with the previous agreement and said, “over a 5 year time, which is the length of the contract, that's over a $100,000.”

The presenter told the board the apparent savings result from the vendor’s expanded customer base and capabilities after a corporate consolidation: “I think Chantelle is a company. GloFire, Chantelle, they they kinda merged. But what what have happened over the years, they've been able to get more and more school districts.” He said the district has found the vendor’s service and support satisfactory during the existing relationship.
