Board approves summer student trips: wrestling camps, STEM camp, FFA state convention and officer retreat

The Dinwiddie County School Board approved several overnight and day trips for students and staff to support athletics, JROTC STEM training and FFA activities this summer.
Approved items included a boys varsity wrestling team camp (overnight, July 7–10) with Coach Hall driving an activity or school bus; a JROTC STEM logistics cadet leadership challenge hosted at Virginia State University in June and supported by Virginia State University and the Virginia National Guard; a girls wrestling camp at Oak Hill Academy (overnight; coach as an observer and camp counselors in charge); the FFA state convention at Virginia Tech in June with approximately 20–25 students and three adults attending (depart 6 a.m. Monday, return about 5 p.m. Thursday); and an FFA officer retreat at Lake Gaston on June 6 with eight students and three adults staying at a parent-owned lake house.
Board members moved and approved each trip by voice vote. Staff noted transportation would be provided by district drivers (Coach Hall and Thomas Davis were identified as drivers for different trips) and that parents will drop off students for certain camps when applicable. The motions were recorded as approved with no recorded nays.
