The City Council authorized SeedMDD funding for pedestrian‑bridge work at Newman Park and approved forwarding a construction contract for the project to D and J Holdings during the May 20 meeting.
Sage Dillard and other city staff said SeedMDD’s board approved additional funding to close a gap left after an earlier donation. Staff went through an RFP process with EHT’s assistance and recommended awarding the contract to D and J Holdings for $228,970.97. The work as advertised included demolition, supply and installation for two bridges and repairs for a rock‑arch bridge.
Dillard said two bridges will be demolished and replaced and made ADA‑accessible; the rock‑arch bridge will receive repairs and ADA upgrades under a separate construction change order. Council voted to forward the contract to D and J Holdings and the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said change orders will be brought back to council to remove demolition of the rock bridge from this contract and to include its repair in another active sidewalk/contract package.
