Paul Robinson, producer of the Texas Outlaw Challenge, told the Seabrook City Council during public comments that he is seeking the council’s review of the annual resolution that the seven lake‑jurisdiction cities approve to permit a four‑hour no‑wake zone on Clear Lake for the Friday morning run of the event.
Robinson said the event — which he has produced for 18 years — is drawing a record crowd and that safety planning, including prior city approvals, has produced a “100% perfect” safety record during past events. He asked the council to review and approve the resolution for the upcoming event scheduled for June 20 and left copies of the resolution for council review.
Nut graf: Robinson warned of an increase in derelict boats in the lake that pose navigational hazards and recounted a personal incident in which he moved an abandoned vessel to protect participants; he said the owner sued seeking $25,000 (later reduced by negotiation) and that he was prepared to take similar action again if necessary to protect event participants.
Robinson said the event draws boaters and visitors for lake amenities and local businesses and noted the event’s marketing and sponsorship reach. He also reminded the council the city sponsors an associated fishing tournament on June 6 and that proceeds support HOME (Helping Our Military Endure), which prepares care packages for service members overseas.
Ending: The item was raised during public comments; the council did not take immediate action on the resolution during the meeting but received the document for review ahead of the event date.
