Caroline schools read proposed adoption of Kiddom (K–5) and Mathspace (6–12) as high-quality math materials; textbook fund to cover purchase

Caroline County Public Schools presented a read Thursday recommending adoption of Kiddom for kindergarten through fifth-grade math and Mathspace for grades 6–12 as the division’s high-quality instructional mathematics materials.
The curriculum team—35 stakeholders including teachers, specialists, parents and central-office staff—used a CCPS rubric informed by a stakeholder survey that prioritized usability, flexibility, support for diverse learners and instructional depth. “The kindergarten through grade program we are proposing to adopt is Kiddom,” a curriculum presenter said, and the secondary recommendation was Mathspace; both were noted as aligned to the Virginia 2023 mathematics Standards of Learning.
Staff described features for teachers and families: consumable student workbooks, class sets of manipulatives, seven years of digital access for students and teachers, and vendor-led professional learning. A board member referenced a projected total cost (discussed in the meeting) of approximately $560,000; staff said the textbook fund has sufficient carryover to cover the purchase and will be paid at once from that fund.
Board members asked about professional learning timing and alignment to the state assessments; staff said materials are 100% aligned to SOLs and that training will be scheduled during new-teacher work weeks and summer sessions so teachers have materials and training before the school year starts.
This was a read; the board will consider adoption/approval at a subsequent meeting and staff will return with final quotes adjusted for next year’s enrollment.
