Eagle Pass approves two-step across-the-board pay increase for city employees effective next pay period

Eagle Pass city council approved a two-step across-the-board pay increase for all city employees Tuesday, a change city leaders said will take effect in the next pay period.

Council members described the move as the product of a multi-year compensation study and long deliberation; together with a previously adopted 3% increase earlier in the year, the combined adjustment was described by staff as roughly a 9–10% raise on average.

Councilman Diaz made the motion and Councilwoman Cruz seconded. The measure passed unanimously. Finance staff briefed the council in the meeting’s budget discussion on the city’s revenues and expenditures, and said the plan had been coordinated with the finance and administration teams to limit impacts on service delivery.

Officials emphasized the step raise is an interim but meaningful improvement and said the city will continue working to further align wages with market rates. Council and staff noted that longer-term adjustments remain under study and that future sessions may consider additional changes as budget capacity allows.

Human-resources and finance staff were instructed to implement the payroll change for the next pay cycle and to provide council with follow-up information about the total cost and any budget adjustments required.
