Resident tells Smithville board of drainage, fence and lighting problems behind Geo's Outdoors; seeks quick city response

Judy Palmer of 14702 Shermark Way addressed the Smithville Board of Aldermen during public comment to report what she described as ongoing property damage and uncompleted site improvements at the parcel behind her home identified in the transcript as Geo's Outdoors.

Palmer said the development moved a drainage ditch onto her property, leaving mud in her yard and forcing her to replace fence panels and level fence posts. “I have a lot of mud on my property inside of my fence… I need about 5 or 6 fence panels replaced,” she said. She said a drainage ditch now runs through her backyard and that she receives running water there when it rains.

Palmer also said promised trees were not planted behind her house, and she described lighting from the development as shining under her windows because her yard sits below the grade of the installed lights. She reported trailers, canoes and kayaks left in mud on the site and said parts of the property remain “rubble and clumps of dirt.”

Palmer told the board she has complained about these conditions for more than a year and said she expects a quick response from the city in the coming days. “I do expect a quick response from anybody in the city in the next coming days. And if not, I will have to seek legal repercussions on my own,” she said.
