Board approves records destruction, lift-station control panel, site plan and compensation amendment; election cost placed on next agenda

The Smithville Board of Aldermen approved several administrative and capital items at the meeting, using a mix of roll-call and voice votes.

Alderman Autumn Atkins moved and the board approved Bill 3055-25, an ordinance authorizing the destruction of certain records. The clerk recorded a 5-0 roll call on that bill.

The board approved Resolution 1443 to replace a lift-station control panel. Staff described the action as an urgent replacement because existing panels had failed; Mid America was chosen in part for a shorter lead time and compatibility with Mission Controls communications hardware. Staff said Mid America’s panel is “a generic control panel” and that the vendor’s shorter lead time motivated the selection. The transcript records a voice vote approving the resolution.

The board also approved Resolution 1444, a site plan for Wollston Architectural Products, by voice vote, and Resolution 1445, an amendment to the employee compensation plan, by voice vote.

In the administrative report, city staff said they will place an emergency budget amendment ordinance on the agenda for the next meeting to pay Clay County’s billed cost for the April election: $6,802.25, due March 18. The transcript indicates the emergency budget amendment will be on the agenda for next Tuesday evening for formal action.

The meeting also included committee updates: park improvements including Emerald Bridal Park shelter installation and Smith's Fork Campground pavement planned in the current budget, and an expansion of senior meals at the senior center to five days a week under a grant. Planning staff reported an unusually high volume of building permits this year and noted a related rezoning item considered at the meeting.
