City, utilities and partners fund two-year chief innovation consultant to pursue emerging technologies

The council approved the memorandum after discussion about scope, funding limits and whether the incumbent would be a city employee or a contracted consultant. John Hamilton and staff clarified the position is a contracted consultant (chief innovation consultant) rather than a direct city staff hire; the consultant will have a city workspace and work with multiple departments.
