After heavy, concentrated rainfall in the Summit/Montesano area on May 2–3, the City of Huntsville placed a stop-work order on construction in the development to complete stormwater controls and prevent further downstream flooding.
Shane Davis, Director of Urban Economic Development, told the council the area experienced about 0.8 inch of rainfall within roughly 25 minutes at the nearby gauge and that a local stream gauge on Dallas Branch rose from a normal pool of about 3.4 feet to nearly 6 feet within 30 minutes, indicating rapid runoff rather than infiltration. “So it was a hundred-year storm event for that area of our city in a very short amount of time,”…
