The WARREN CO. R-III Board approved a contract with Gateway Media to provide executive-producer broadcasting services for district athletic events and student activities.
Staff said the contract will fulfill a previously approved staffing position for an executive producer/broadcaster but will be executed as a contracted service rather than a district employee. The presenter said the contractor, identified as Keith Brown’s business, produced the district’s broadcasts this year and will dedicate services to the district while retaining the option to expand the business to other schools in the future.
The contract guarantees a minimum of 100 events; staff said the district intends to broadcast all Friday-night football games and a selection of other events with a target of two or three nights per week when possible. Staff also said the contractor will sell advertising and sponsors for broadcasts, earn a commission on sales, and return some revenue to the district; staff expect the advertising revenue to recoup part of the contract cost.
Board members approved the contract by voice vote. Staff said the arrangement is expected to free district staff time previously devoted to broadcasting and anticipates increased student involvement in production.
