Kanan Shah told the commissioners he grew up in California, attended Walla Walla University and works at Baker Boyer Bank in commercial lending and later in wealth management. He described appraisal-related experience and prior board or committee service, including the Youth Action Council while in college. Shah said he had no objection to the county’s routine background check for board appointees.
Commissioners praised Shah’s background and experience with property valuation and appraisals; Commissioner Bertha J. Clayton noted prior observation of professional, impartial board conduct and supported his nomination. Human-resources staff said they prepared an offer letter because this board pays a stipend; they also noted the board member will receive required training and that members will be provided a county email address and onboarding steps.
Next steps: Staff will prepare an offer letter and a resolution to appear on the May 19 consent agenda for formal appointment. Training for new BOE members is scheduled for June, and the county will provide the required orientation.
