The Snohomish County Council Public Infrastructure and Conservation Committee on April 1 moved to place a proposed purchase of residential room furnishings for the Everett and Edmonds Newstart Centers on the April 9 council consent calendar.
The motion, presented by Council staff member Deb Evanston Bell, would authorize the county to piggyback on an existing Washington State Department of Enterprise Services cooperative purchasing agreement (CUA 2024CUA471) and a related contract (number 20122) with the Washington State Department of Corrections’ Correctional Industries to buy and install furnishings.
According to Bell’s staff report, the purchase would cover furnishings for 117 beds, including bed decks, mattresses, desks, desk chairs, nightstands and dressers; eight of the beds and associated furnishings would be accessibility or barrier-free units. The Everett facility also requires 72 full wardrobes. Bell said the Edmonds portion of the purchase is estimated at $156,997.43 for 45 standard and barrier-free room furnishings; the Everett portion is estimated at $376,215.48 for 72 standard and barrier-free room furnishings. Those totals include delivery and sales tax. Funding for the purchases was anticipated in the county’s 2025–2026 budget.
Bell said there had been an error on the previously posted agenda and clarified that the requested action was for the committee to move the motion to the April 9 general legislative session (GLS) consent calendar for council consideration. Committee Chair Lowe called for any questions; none were raised and the committee advanced the item to consent.
No public commenters addressed this item during the meeting.
The item will appear on the Snohomish County Council consent calendar on April 9 for final council action or removal from consent for discussion.
