The Snohomish County Council on April 23 authorized a grants agreement with the Washington State Department of Agriculture awarding $1,685,482 to the Snohomish County Food and Farming Center.
Council staff reported the Resilient Food System Infrastructure Grant will specifically support acquisition of specialized industrial processing and cold storage equipment to be installed in the processing facility. The staff list of equipment includes an individually quick frozen system, an industrial dehydrator, a specialized slicing and dicing machine, a wash-and-pack line and a dedicated cold storage unit. The grant start date reported in the staff summary was April 1, 2025, and the grant end date May 15, 2027.
Ryan Hambrick, council staff, told the council these are federal-origin dollars awarded to the state and passed through as the awarded grant. The staff report noted the grant funds will also support worker safety protocols and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plans associated with the equipment.
The council approved Motion 25-196 by unanimous vote of the five members present.
Ending: The Food and Farming Center will proceed to install the listed equipment during the grant period; staff identified April 1, 2025–May 15, 2027 as the grant period in the motion before the council.
