Snohomish County’s Finance, Budget and Administration Committee used part of its Jan. 14 meeting to solicit member preferences on committee workplans and reporting cadence for staff updates.
Committee staff proposed a briefing on federal grants involving Human Services, the Health Department and Public Works; committee members indicated interest and staff said the briefing will likely be scheduled in March or April depending on departmental availability.
Members also discussed the monthly hires and separations report compiled by Human Resources. Council staff said the report is posted to SharePoint monthly and currently distributed by staff; committee members expressed that while the monthly detail may not always be useful, access to the report remains valuable. Several members suggested switching to a quarterly presentation while retaining access to the monthly report online.
On budget notes and budget condition updates, staff said the updates are now provided quarterly rather than monthly because month-to-month changes are often minimal. Staff asked whether the committee preferred a verbal briefing at meetings or only the updated matrix emailed to members; members indicated the quarterly cadence and the matrix distribution remain useful, but a briefing can be scheduled if members request it.
Staff said they will reach out to the involved departments to arrange the federal-grants briefing and will continue to provide hires and separations and budget notes in the format and cadence the committee agreed on.
