Snohomish County panel seeks to shrink Community Services Advisory Council membership

Snohomish County staff told the Community Safety and Justice Committee on May 13 that an ordinance would reduce membership requirements for the county's Community Services Advisory Council after the panel failed to meet the current minimum. Nicole Gourley, council staff, presented the proposal and asked the committee to move the ordinance to the Governmental Lands and Services (GLS) docket for a May 21 public hearing setting.
The ordinance, listed as Ordinance 25-028 in the staff report, would lower the advisory council's minimum membership from 12 to 6 and the maximum from 24 to 15, and change district representation from two members per council district to one. Gourley said the Community Services Advisory Council was established in 1986 to advise the executive and county council on matters pertaining to poverty and its reduction and that the change is requested because the council currently cannot meet the statutory minimum.
Committee members did not raise substantive objections during the briefing. The proposed action before the committee was to move the ordinance to GLS on May 21 to set time and date for a public hearing. The committee approved that procedural move without objection.
If advanced at GLS and adopted by the county council, the ordinance would change the formal membership rules for appointments to the Community Services Advisory Council. The staff report accompanying the ordinance contains a table of current members and the requested amendments to the code language.
