Committee moves to schedule hearing on interlocal agreement allowing county to collect Everett special assessments

The Finance, Budget and Administration Committee of the Snohomish County Council on Jan. 14 advanced an ordinance to set a public hearing on an interlocal agreement permitting the Snohomish County treasurer to collect special assessments levied by the City of Everett.
The ordinance, introduced by council staff, would authorize the county executive to sign an agreement with Everett under which the city would reimburse the county for reasonable costs and expenses incurred in collection. The staff summary states the service fee will be 1% of special assessments collected and that the term runs through Dec. 31, 2026.
Committee chair Dunne and members had no substantive questions during the brief presentation. Council staff asked that the ordinance be moved to the Governmental and Legislative Services (GLS) calendar for Jan. 22 to set a public hearing; committee leadership indicated it would be placed on the administrative matters agenda to set time and date. No final vote on the ordinance was taken at the Jan. 14 meeting.
If adopted after the public hearing, the agreement would permit the county treasurer to perform assessment collections on Everett’s behalf and recover costs from the city at the stated fee. The next formal step is the administrative calendaring and the public hearing scheduled by GLS or administrative staff.
