Committee forwards Flood Damage Reduction Grant ordinance to council with public hearing to be set

The Snohomish County Planning and Community Development Committee on Jan. 21 forwarded Ordinance 25-0004 to the full County Council and instructed staff to set a time and date for a public hearing.
Ordinance 25-0004 would establish the Snohomish County Flood Damage Reduction Grant Program with a total fund of $180,000, and authorize the County Executive to execute interlocal agreements with grant recipients. According to council staff, the grant program is part of the county’s 2024 budget for the Division of Surface Water Management and is intended to help special purpose flood control districts maintain flood protection for homes, county roads, farms and agricultural lands and to help drain floodwaters after major flood events.
Surface Water Management convened a grant review process and recommended three flood control districts to receive awards: Daikin District 1 for $50,000; French Slough Flood Control District for $80,000; and Marshland Flood Control District for $50,000. The committee’s action sends the ordinance to the General Legislative Session so the full council can schedule a public hearing and consider the interlocal agreements.
No public testimony was recorded at the committee meeting. The committee did not adopt the ordinance at the Jan. 21 meeting; it moved the ordinance forward for council consideration and a public hearing to be scheduled.
