San Juan County schedules new public hearing on East Sound and Lopez Village vacation rental rules

San Juan County Council set a public hearing for 9:15 a.m. June 10 to consider a revised ordinance on vacation rental permits in East Sound Village Commercial and Lopez Village Commercial designations and related land-use table amendments.
Planner Sofia Kassem told the council the county previously held a hearing on the subject April 15 and approved Ordinance 04-2025, but a noticing error meant the public did not have the required review time. “The proposed ordinance at this point has the same text … but we are suggesting holding a hearing on the ordinance again with the proper noticing time,” Kassem said.
Council members asked staff to check the ordinance text for internal date references; one council member identified a line in section K that still references April 25 and asked staff to correct it so effective dates will match the new hearing schedule. Kassem agreed to make the edits.
The council approved a motion to set the June 10, 2025, 9:15 a.m. public hearing; the motion carried unanimously.
