Commissioners agree to upgrade public mapping system; staff to seek budget adjustment

Okanogan County staff presented a proposal to replace the county's MapSifter mapping product with a cloud-based mapping platform (MapGeo/MapSifter upgrade) that would offer faster updates and more tools for staff and the public.
The county currently pays about $5,300 per year for MapSifter; staff described an implementation option with an $8,500 one-time install and an ongoing $6,000 annual fee that would include NAIP aerial imagery and up to 30 data layers. Planning and assessor staff said the upgraded platform would let departments publish parcel and sales updates much faster and provide new tools such as downloadable data, buffer "splat" analyses (for example 300-foot radius impact areas), and more interactive public mapping.
County staff asked commissioners to authorize a budget adjustment from contingency reserves to cover the first-year installation and contract. Commissioners indicated support for the change and directed staff to draft the budget adjustment and a contract route; one commissioner said they preferred to eliminate the older side-by-side product over time.
Staff will work with county central services to schedule an implementation timeline and return with formal documents for signature. The upgrade is intended to reduce public delays between internal parcel edits and what citizens see online.
