Commissioners review contracts, CSO work, parks and other administrative reports
Summary
Commissioners received a series of administrative updates Jan. 23 including social media contracts, CSO coordination, a $200,000 sewer grant ordinance to adopt, parks paperwork issues, paving contracts and a brief police update on a hoax swatting incident.
During its Jan. 23 caucus, the Ridgefield Park Board of Commissioners received multiple administrative reports and status updates on infrastructure, parks and public-safety matters.
Commissioner William G. Gerken said social media contracts have been completed and a resolution will be prepared for the Jan. 28 meeting; a website redesign is projected for August 2025. Gerken reported ongoing combined sewer overflow (CSO) coordination with Hackensack and Fort Lee and said an Administrative Compliance Agreement remains to be signed as the Village continues work on a Long-Term Control Plan. CSO Phase 1 work with Suburban is scheduled to be discussed with that contractor.
Gerken also reported a Nature Preserve meeting in which adding water to the water table raised concerns that it could flood other properties. He said paperwork is outstanding for Veterans Park South and that a geo-survey for Fellowship Park appears to be missing a 2009 form. Boswell Engineering is working to secure a sound company to address noise on Ridgefield Ave and Bergen Turnpike. Gerken said the Village needs to adopt an ordinance related to a $200,000 legislative grant for sewer improvements.
Commissioner Wanda C. Portorreal said the Board of Recreation is seeking additional storage space and noted the short archery range is safe but the long range is not; recruitment of basketball coaches remains a challenge. Portorreal said Sustainable RP is discussing an energy plan with the goal of attaining gold status. She also attended a TANAAC meeting and reported there are no longer drones and zero complaints from the village.
Assistant Superintendent Rich Flynn said the Department of Public Works completed required schooling and thanked the Police Department for removing cars to allow curb-to-curb snow plowing; he noted ongoing parking in the IGA lot and recommended notice/warning stickers. Commissioner John H. Anlian said the Police Department ordered three blinking stop signs for the Route 80 ramp/Second Street.
Philip Boggia said contracts were sent to D & S Paving for Hunter Park and that a contract for DLS for the paving of five roads will be issued shortly. He said an amendment to the towing ordinance expanding its range to within five miles of the Ridgefield Park border will be ready for introduction at the Jan. 28 meeting. Clerk Tara O'Grady said Congressman Josh Gottheimer's office requested mobile office hours before a commissioners meeting, and she received a request from the Governor's office for the mayor and commissioners' cell numbers.
Lieutenant William Morton reported a swatting incident at the high school that the department identified as a hoax; he said Ridgefield Park was not the only Bergen County town affected and officers determined it was not credible quickly.
No formal votes were recorded on these reports during the caucus; several items were noted for future action or ordinance introduction at the Jan. 28 meeting.
