Nandua students, staff and parents present awards, and raise concerns about Chromebooks and SAT prep

Representatives from Nandua High School presented awards and program highlights and requested board attention to two student concerns: Chromebook availability/chargers and SAT preparation.
Student representatives Beza Karpaz and Rhianna Taylor described competitive successes in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), SkillsUSA welding and other career-technical categories; the presentation named individual students who placed in regional and state competitions. The school’s cheer team and swim teams earned regional titles and placed at state competitions; the wrestling program produced a state champion. Teacher and club sponsor Chelsea Bredegum described student qualifications for the national Beta Convention and ongoing fundraising to send qualifying students to nationals in Orlando in June.
Students and a parent speaker asked the board to address Chromebook durability and replacement timelines: students reported frequent requests for Chromebooks and chargers in the library, devices that do not last, missing chargers and slow IT turnaround to replace equipment. A student said most universities will again require SAT scores next year and requested that the division consider offering SAT-prep courses, either as after-school programs or as elective courses, to help students preparing college applications.
Why this matters: The presentations showcased academic and extracurricular achievements and raised instructional-technology and college-preparation gaps students and parents want the board and central office to address.
Follow-up: Staff agreed to share fundraiser information for the Beta Club with the board and to consider the request for SAT-prep offerings; board members expressed support for exploring SAT-prep options and for assisting students attending national competitions.
