School board forms policy committee to accelerate review of district policies

The Gloucester County School Board voted to establish a policy committee to accelerate and coordinate systematic review of the district’s policies and to provide the board with more department-level vetting before full board consideration.
Superintendent Dr. Vladue recommended a committee of two to three board members plus department representatives to meet monthly to review policies, recommend edits and prepare drafts for board consideration. The superintendent emphasized that the committee would not replace the board’s final approval authority; rather, it would do preparatory work so full board discussion could be more focused and efficient.
Board members discussed committee membership and procedure; three members volunteered to serve for the remainder of the academic year: Mr. Drew, Miss McDonough and Miss Solomon. The board approved adding the policy committee to the standing list of committees and commissions.
The committee is expected to start with a backlog of policies flagged for five‑year reviews and to consult instructional, operations and finance staff as needed. The motion to form the committee passed by unanimous voice vote.
