School board certifies closed session, approves personnel agenda and introduces two administrative hires

The Orange County School Board convened a closed meeting under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act to consider personnel matters and related security and investment topics, certified that the closed meeting complied with the Code of Virginia, and approved a personnel agenda that included retirements, resignations, rescinded resignations, new hires, terminations, salary adjustments and transfers.
The clerk certified the closed meeting under Code of Virginia provisions for personnel and security (citing sections on personnel, investment of public funds and facility security). The board’s closed-meeting certification passed on a 4–0 recorded roll call.
After the closed session, a staff speaker recommended approval of the personnel actions “as presented in closed session.” The board then approved the personnel agenda by voice vote.
At the start of the meeting the board publicly introduced two administrative hires. Jay Snyder was presented as the new principal of Locust Grove Elementary School. Snyder said, “I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to be the principal of Locust Grove Elementary School and to join the Orange County Schools team.” Julie Miller was introduced as the new supervisor of school nutrition; Miller said she was “especially enthusiastic about integrating a fresh farm to school focus over the next few years.”
Board members moved on to routine consent and business items after approving personnel and offering recognitions.
